Women and girls in Malawi are often treated like second class citizens. They do not have the same resources or opportunities as men.

The Banda Bola Sports Foundation is making a difference in the lives of girls in Malawi by empowering them through access to education and soccer.

Until now, girls have not been allowed to play soccer. Keni Banda, Founder, set two basic rules for his soccer teams. Children must attend school in order to play on a team and girls must be allowed to play on an equal basis as the boys. “They can’t be it, unless they see it.”

Today both girls and boys play soccer. We’re breaking barriers, BUT we’re facing a new challenge.

We are providing soccer shorts and uniforms, but there is no private place to change clothes. Girls who are not at ease changing in the bushes or behind trees must play in a dress or don’t play at all. This is undignified and wrong.

We need to build a changing room and toilets to assure privacy and dignity, so girls can play soccer and be encouraged to stay in school. This is the first priority for our mini-soccer complex.

We need your help.

15,000 bricks are required to build the facility. We have secured the land and are preparing for excavation, but we need 15,000 bricks for the building. Each brick costs $1. We need $15,000 to make this happen.

Thanks to the graciousness of our supporters, on Giving Tuesday (12/3), we were able to raise $810 of the funds, leaving $14,190 to go!

Can you pitch in $5, $25, $100 to help build a changing facility a reality for our girls? A buck for a brick. Help us give them the dignity they deserve. Please click here to donate.

Thank you for your support. We’re excited to show you our building progress along the way.
